Uniting for Victory - Robert the Bruce's Speech from Outlaw King

Quote of the Day: Uniting for Victory

I could talk about God, but he has no place where we are going.

I could talk about honor, but you are here.

You know enough about honor.

I know you all as men, today, we are BEASTS!

If you fight for God, for Honor, for Country, for Family, for Yourselves, I do not care, so long as you fight!

- Outlaw King -

Quote Meaning

This line is a speech given by Robert the Bruce, King of Scotland, in the Netflix original movie Outlaw King, to inspire courage and patriotism just before a battle. In it, he emphasizes that while it's important to fight for God, honor, country, family, or oneself, what's paramount to him is that everyone comes together to fight. In other words, depending on the circumstances and surroundings of the battle, noble values like God or honor don't matter; instead, Robert the Bruce emphasizes to his troops that everyone needs to be realistic and tough in order to focus on the battle and lead them to victory. This emphasizes the fierceness and importance of the battle, and sends the message that everyone must work together beyond their own interests or values to make it happen.

Quote of the Day: Embracing the Wolf's Strategy in Outlaw King

Quote of the Day

No more chivalry.

Now we fight like wolves!

- Outlaw King -

Quote Meaning

This line is from the Netflix original movie Outlaw King, depicting Robert the Bruce's journey to secure the independence of the Kingdom of Scotland from Edward I of England. Following William Wallace's defeat at the Battle of Falkirk, Robert the Bruce, along with other Scottish nobles, is compelled to yield to Edward I but discerns an opportunity.

The quote suggests that in the midst of a hostile and merciless war, one should embrace a savage and unrelenting approach to combat rather than adhering to chivalric values or relying solely on cunning tactics. "Chivalry" refers to the aristocratic code of conduct traditionally observed by knights, and the line implies that such noble virtues are inadequate in times of powerlessness. Instead, it underscores the necessity for a combat strategy as ruthless and resilient as that of a wolf.
