Who was Ted Williams?

Ted Williams, whose real name is Theodore Samuel Williams, is a former American professional baseball player in Major League Baseball (MLB) and is regarded as one of the greatest hitters in baseball history. He is among the last four hitters to achieve a .400 batting average. Throughout his career, Williams boasted an impressive batting line of .344/.482/.634/1.116, with a WRC+ of 187, 521 home runs, and 2,654 hits. Notably, he holds the all-time records for slugging percentage and on-base percentage. Inducted into the MLB Hall of Fame twice, Williams earned his place by winning the prestigious Triple Crown (leading in home runs, batting average, on-base percentage, slugging percentage, and total bases).

What sets Williams apart is his extraordinary military service. He enlisted in the Marines at the end of World War II and served as a fighter pilot instructor. During the Korean War, he flew 39 combat missions as an F9F Panther pilot in the Marine Corps Air Forces. Despite dedicating prime years to his military duties from 1943 to 1945 and 1952 to 1953, Williams continued to compete in Major League Baseball seasons after his service. He achieved the Triple Crown twice and earned the nickname 'Last of the Four Hitters' for his remarkable .406 batting average in 1941. Notably, Williams is one of only 13 baseball players to receive the Presidential Medal of Freedom, the nation's highest military honor.

Currently, Shoei Ohtani's remarkable achievements are capturing headlines, bringing renewed attention to the legendary 'Four Hitters' of baseball history.
