⊙ Quote of the Day: The Duality of Human Nature and Our Inner Demons

Quotes on Light, Darkness, and Change: Exploring the Duality of Human Nature

Even the devil was once an angel.

- Unknown -

The origins of this quote are uncertain, but it suggests that people with dark pasts or evil behavior may have been good people in the past. It speaks to the idea that people can change, and that past behavior does not determine who they are today. It suggests that everyone has the potential for good and evil, and that our choices determine which path we take. It can be interpreted as a warning against judging others too harshly, and a reminder that while we all have the potential for greatness, we must also recognize the darkness within us.

Finding Miracles in Adversity: Inspirational Quotes

This collection of quotes highlights the power of miracles in overcoming adversity and finding hope in challenging times, encouraging a positive mindset and growth. Learn how to find hope, strength, and positive change even in the most challenging times.

⊙ Quote of the Day: The Miracle of Overcoming Adversity

Finding Miracles in Adversity: Inspirational Quotes

Out of difficulties grow miracles.

- Jean de La Bruyere -

This quote from 17th-century French moralist, philosopher, and literary critic Jean de La Bruyère reminds us that there is hope for miraculous outcomes even in the midst of difficulties. It emphasizes that persevering through tough times can lead to amazing results. The idea is that challenges and hardships often become catalysts for growth, innovation, and success, ultimately leading to miraculous outcomes.

  • Finding Opportunity in Adversity: In the midst of difficulty and hardship, new possibilities and opportunities for progress can emerge. Just as stars shine more brightly in a dark night sky, human potential is often unleashed in adversity.
  • Adversity as a Catalyst for Growth: Difficulties are not merely painful experiences; they are opportunities for growth that can make us better people. The lessons and experiences gained through adversity enrich our lives and help us mature in our outlook on life.
  • The Importance of a Positive Attitude: When faced with difficulties, it's important to try to solve them with a positive mindset. A positive mindset helps us overcome adversity and find new opportunities.

This quote remains relevant in the modern world. We all face challenges, big and small, in our lives. If we don't give up and face them with a positive attitude, we can achieve unexpected growth and development. Instead of being afraid of challenges, use them as opportunities to grow and make positive changes.

Quotes on the Importance of Practice and Action

This collection of quotes emphasizes the importance of action over words, highlighting how practice and deeds are essential for achieving success. Learn why taking action is essential for success, overcoming fear, and achieving your goals.

⊙ Quote of the Day: The Power of Action

Quotes on the Importance of Practice and Action

The shortest answer is doing the thing.

- Ernest Hemingway -

Ernest Hemingway's quote, "The shortest answer is doing the thing," highlights the philosophy of action and the importance of deeds over words. It emphasizes that the best way to answer a question, solve a problem, or prove a point is through direct action rather than lengthy explanations or discussions.

  • Action is the best answer: It suggests that taking action is more effective than dwelling on thoughts or concerns.
  • Brevity and action: Reflecting Hemingway's concise writing style, the quote underscores his belief in the power of clear, direct action.
  • Don't procrastinate, act: It encourages immediate action when faced with challenges, rather than hesitating or procrastinating.
  • The importance of action: Achievement requires more than just thinking; it demands action to produce results.

Sometimes fear of the consequences can hold us back from taking action, and trying to get everything perfect can prevent us from even getting started. It's important to let go of perfectionism and just take action and get started, rather than worrying about the outcome. This quote serves as a reminder to embrace action, letting go of the need for perfection, and confidently facing life's challenges.

Cultivating True Friendship in a Busy World: A Quote from The Little Prince

In Chapter 21 of The Little Prince, learn how "taming" can create meaningful connections and the timeless value of genuine relationships.

⊙ Quote of the day: Taming Relationships

Cultivating True Friendship in a Busy World: A Quote from The Little Prince

"One only understands the things that one tames," said the fox.

"Men have no more time to understand anything. They buy things all ready made at the shops. But there is no shop anywhere where one can buy friendship, and so men have no friends any more. If you want a friend, tame me."

- The Little Prince (Le Petit Prince) by Antoine de Saint-Exupéry-

This quote comes from “Chapter 21” of “The Little Prince.” In this particular passage, the fox teaches the Little Prince an important lesson about relationships and understanding. The fox tells the Little Prince that to truly understand someone or something, you have to “tame” it, and this taming process refers to the time and care required to form a bond. The fox points out that modern people often seek instant gratification and consumerism, but true friendships and meaningful relationships cannot be bought or rushed, and must be cultivated over time through patience, hard work, and mutual understanding.

“But there is no shop anywhere where one can buy friendship, and so men have no friends anymore. If you want a friend, tame me.”

It takes time and effort to realize the value of true friendship and to build meaningful relationships. True understanding and connection cannot be bought or earned in a moment, but must be cultivated through patience and care. Thinking more deeply about true friends...

⊙ The Little Prince: Chapter 21.

It was then that the fox appeared. “Good morning,” said the fox.

“Good morning,” the little prince responded politely although when he turned around he saw nothing.

“I am right here,” the voice said, “under the apple tree.”

“Who are you?” asked the little prince, and added,

“You are very pretty to look at.”

“I am a fox,” the fox said.

“Come and play with me,” proposed the little prince.

“I so unhappy.” “I cannot play with you,” the fox said.

“I am not tamed."

“Ah! Please excuse me,” said the little prince.

But, after some thought, he added : “What does that mean -‘tame’?”

“You do not live here,” said the fox.

“What is the that you are looking for?”

“I am looking for men,” said the little prince.

“What does that mean -‘tame’?

“Men,” said the fox.

“They have guns, and they hunt, It is very disturbing. They also raise chickens. These are their only interests. Are you looking for chickens?“

“No,” said the little prince. “I am looking for friends. What does that mean- ‘tame’?”

“It is an act too often neglected,” said the fox.

“It means to establish ties.” “‘To establish ties’?”

“Just that,” said the fox. “To me, you are still nothing more than a little boy who is just like a hundred thousand other little boys.

And I have no need of you, And you, on your part, have no need of me.

To you, I am nothing more than a fox like a hundred thousand other foxes.

But if you tame me, then we shall need each other.

To me, you will be unique in all the would.

To you, I shall be unique in all the would...”

“I am beginning to understand,” said the little prince.

“There is a flower... I think that she has tamed me...”

“It is possible,” said the fox. “On the Earth one sees all sorts of things.”

“Oh, but this is not on the Earth!” said the little prince.

The fox seemed perplexed, and very curious.

“On another planet?” “Yes.”

“Are there hunters on that planet?”

“No.” “Ah, that is interesting! Are there chickens?”

“No.” “nothing is perfect,” sighed the fox.

But he came back to his idea.

“My life is very monotonous,” the fox said.

“I hunt chickens; men hunt me. All the chickens are just alike, and all the are just alike. And, in consequence, I am a little board.

But if you tame me, it will be as if the sun came to shine on my like.

I shall know the sound of a step that will be different from all the others.

Other steps send me hurrying back underneath the ground.

Yours will call me, like music, out of my burrow.

And then look: you see the grain-fields down yonder?

I do not eat bread. Wheat is of no use to me.

The wheat fields have nothing to say to me. And that is sad.

But you have hair that is the color of gold.

Think how wonderful that will be when you have tamed me!

The grain, which is also golden, will bring me back the thought of you.

And I shall love to listen to the wind in the wheat...”

The fox gazed at the little prince, for a long time.

“Please – tame me!” he said.

“I want to, very much,” the little prince replied.

“But I have not much time. I have friends to discover, and a great many things to understand.”

“One only understands the things that one tames,” said the fox.

“Men have no more time to understand anything.

They buy things all ready made at the shops.

But there is no shop anywhere where one can buy friendship, and so men have no friends any more. If you want a friend, tame me...”

“What must I do, to tame you?” asked the little prince.

“You must be very patient,” replied the fox.

“First you will sit down at a little distance from me – like that - in the grass. I shall look at you out of the corner of my eye, and you will say nothing.

Words are the source of misunderstandings.

But you will sit a little closer to me, every day...” next day the little prince came back.

“It would have been better to come back at the same hour,” said the fox.

“If, for example, you come at four o’clock in the afternoon, then at three o’clock I shall begin to be happy.

I shall feel happier and happier as the hour advances.

At four o’clock, I shall already be worrying and jumping about.

I shall show you how happy I am! But if you come at just any time

I shall never know at what hour my heart is to be ready to greet you...

One must observe the proper rites...”

“What is a rite?” asked the little prince.

“Those also are actions too often neglected,” said the fox.

“They are what make one day different from other days, one hour from other hours.

There is a rite, for example, among my hunters. Every Thursday they dance with the village girls.

So Thursday is a wonderful day for me!

I can take a walk as far as the vineyards.

But if the hunters danced at just any time, every day other day, and I should never have any vacation at all.”

So the little prince tamed the fox. And when the hour of his departure drew near - “Ah,” said the fox, “I shall cry.”

“It is your own fault,” said the little prince. “I never wished you any sort of harm ; but you wanted me to tame you...”

“Yes, that is so,” said the fox.

“But now you are going to cry!” said the little prince.

“Yes, that is so,” said the fox. “Then it has done you no good at all!”

“It has done me good,”said the fox,

“because of the color or the wheat filds.” And then he added :

“Go and look again at the roses.

Then come back to say goodbye to me, and I will make you a present of a secret.” The little prince went away, to look again at the roses.

“You are not at all like my rose,” he said.

“As yet you are nothing. No one has tamed you, and you have tamed no one.

You are like my fox when I first knew him.

He was only a fox like a hundred thousand other foxes.

But I have made him my friend, and now he is unique ln all the world.”

And the roses were very much embarrassed.

“You are beautiful, but you are empty,” he went on.

“One could not die for you. To be sure, an ordinary passerby would think that my rose looked just like you – the rose that belongs to me.

But in herself alone she is more important than all the hundreds of you other roses :

because it is she that I have watered; beause it is she that I have put under the glass globe; because it is she that I have sheltered behind the screen; because it is for her that I have killed the caterpillars (except the two or three that we saved to become butterflies); because it is she that I have listened to, when she grumbled, or boasted, or even sometimes when she said nothing. Because she is my rose.”

And he went back to meet the fox. “Goodbye,” he said,

“Goodbye,” said the fox.

“And now here is my secret, a very simple secret: It is only with the heart that one can see rightly; what is essential is invisible to the eye.”

“What is essential is invisible to the eye,” the little prince repeated, so that he would be sure to remember,

“It is the time you have wasted for your rose that makes your rose so important.” “It is the time I have wasted for my rose -” said the little prince, so that he would be sure to remember.

“Men have forgotten this truth,” said the fox.

“But you must not forget it. You become responsible, forever, forwhat you have tamed. You are responsible for my rose...”

“I am responsible for my rose,” the little prince repeated, so that he would be sure to remember.

Finding Light Through Life’s Cracks: Reflections on Cohen’s 'Anthem'

This quote from Leonard Cohen's "Anthem" highlights the beauty in imperfection, suggesting that hope and healing emerge through life's flaws and challenges.

⊙ Quote of the Day: Hope in darkness

Finding Light Through Life’s Cracks: Reflections on Cohen’s 'Anthem'

There is a crack in everything.

That’s how the light gets in.

- Leonard Cohen : Anthem -

This is a line from the song “Anthem” by Canadian singer-songwriter, poet, and novelist Leonard Cohen. It acknowledges that the world and life are not perfect, but it also conveys the message that hope and healing can be found in imperfection. The “cracks” symbolize wounds, flaws, failures, and pain, and it is only through these “cracks” that light (hope, healing, and salvation) can come through. This quote is often cited as an encouragement not to lose hope in the midst of difficulties, but to find a better way through them.

A singer and minstrel, Cohen's distinctive bass voice has given us many captivating songs, including “Hallelujah,” featured in the movie Shrek, “You Want It Darker,” from the Assassin's Creed Origins cinematic trailer, and many others like “I'm Your Man,” “Suzanne,” and “Seems So Long Ago, Nancy.”

⊙ Anthem Lyrics

• (monologue)

Ring the bells that still can ring

Forget your perfect offering

There is a crack, a crack in everything

That's how the light gets in

The birds they sang at the break of day

"Start again", I seem to hear them say

Don't dwell on what has passed away

Or what is yet to be

Ah, the wars, they will be fought again

The holy dove, she will be caught again

Bought and sold and bought again

The dove is never free

Ring the bells that still can ring

Forget your perfect offering

There is a crack, a crack in everything

That's how the light gets in

We asked for signs, and the signs were sent

The birth betrayed, the marriage spent

Yeah, the widowhood of every single government

Signs for all to see

I can't run no more with that lawless crowd

While the killers in high places say their prayers out loud

But they've summoned, they've summoned up a thundercloud

And they're going to hear from me

Ring the bells that still can ring

Forget your perfect offering

There is a crack, a crack in everything

That's how the light gets in

You can add up the parts, but you won't have the sum

You can strike up the march, on your little broken drum

Every heart, every heart to love will come

But like a refugee

Ring the bells that still can ring

Forget your perfect offering

There is a crack, a crack in everything

That's how the light gets in

Ring the bells that still can ring

Forget your perfect offering

There is a crack, a crack in everything

That's how the light gets in

Ring the bells that still can ring

Forget your perfect offering

There is a crack, a crack in everything

That's how the light gets in

That's how the light gets in

That's how the light gets in

Proverbs and Quotes About Happiness and Success Through Overcoming Adversity

Adversity is a common theme throughout history, and many wise individuals have offered insights into its role in shaping our lives. The following proverbs and quotes emphasize that challenges and hardships are essential catalysts for self-improvement, growth, and reaching your full potential.

⊙ Quote of the Day: Happiness and Success Through Overcoming Adversity

Proverbs and Quotes About Happiness and Success Through Overcoming Adversity

A gem cannot be polished without friction,

nor a man perfected without trials.

- Chinese Proverb -

Today's quote is a proverb that reminds us that just as a gemstone can't gain its luster without friction, trials and tribulations refine a person and ultimately help them grow into a better version of themselves. We've gathered quotes that emphasize the common theme that challenges, hardships, and trials are crucial for self-improvement and realizing your full potential. Daniel Defoe said that the soul must be polished like a diamond before it can truly shine, and Helen Keller believed that trials and suffering strengthen the soul and pave the way to success. Rocky Balboa emphasized that you have to be ready to take hits to achieve what you deserve, while Pele stated that the greater the struggle, the sweeter the victory. When facing difficulties, don't give up—overcome them, and you'll grow into a more successful, accomplished, and improved version of yourself.

Finding Beauty in Sadness: A Quote from 'The Little Prince'

Discover the beauty and meaning behind "One loves the sunset when one is so sad" from The Little Prince. Explore the connection between sadness, beauty, and life's lessons through this poignant quote.

⊙ Quote of the Day: Finding Beauty in Sadness

Finding Beauty in Sadness: A Quote from 'The Little Prince'

You see, one loves the sunset when one is so sad…

- The Little Prince (Le Petit Prince) : Antoine de Saint-Exupéry-

This is a line from “Chapter 06 - SunSet” in “The Little Prince” by Antoine de Saint-Exupéry, who loved the sky and disappeared in it. The sentence suggests that when the Little Prince feels sad, he finds solace in watching the sunset, and it speaks to the idea of finding beauty in sadness. It expresses how emotions affect a person's perspective and experience. When feeling sad, people often attach deeper meaning to moments of natural beauty, especially sunsets. The sunset signals the end of the day but also symbolizes a new beginning, and this dual meaning represents the human tendency to find hope in sadness. In “The Little Prince,” this sentence doesn't just represent sadness, but symbolizes the attitude of finding beauty and comfort in it. In conclusion, this passage has many meanings, including the coexistence of sadness and beauty, the importance of life, and the expression of emotions, and it helps us understand and appreciate life.

Saint-Exupéry fought in World War II and fled to the United States after France's defeat. In the United States, The Little Prince was published in English and French on April 6, 1943, by Reynal & Hitchcock. “Shortly after the publication of The Little Prince, Saint-Exupéry returns to his old squadron stationed in Tunis on July 21, 1943. Saint-Exupéry's aircraft of choice is the Lockheed P-38 Lightning. Saint-Exupéry, now older and flying mostly reconnaissance, is shot down by German planes over Corsica, 100 kilometers north of Bastille, in the Provence region, and crashes into the sea, the last time the 44-year-old Saint-Exupéry will ever see the light of day.

⊙ The Little Prince Chapter 06 - Sunset

Oh, little prince!

Bit by bit I came to understand the secrets of your sad little life . . .

For a long time you had found your only entertainment in the quiet pleasure of looking at the sunset.

I learned that new detail on the morning of the fourth day, when you said to me:

"I am very fond of sunsets. Come, let us go look at a sunset now."

"But we must wait," I said.

"Wait? For what?"

"For the sunset. We must wait until it is time."

At first you seemed to be very much surprised.

And then you laughed to yourself. You said to me:

"I am always thinking that I am at home!"

Just so. Everybody knows that when it is noon in the United States the sun is setting over France.

If you could fly to France in one minute, you could go straight into the sunset, right from noon.

Unfortunately, France is too far away for that.

But on your tiny planet, my little prince, all you need do is move your chair a few steps.

You can see the day end and the twilight falling whenever you like...

"One day," you said to me, "I saw the sunset forty-four times!"

And a little later you added:

"You know--one loves the sunset, when one is so sad..."

"Were you so sad, then?" I asked, "on the day of the forty-four sunsets?"

But the little prince made no reply.

W.H. Auden's Insights: Good, Evil, and the Human Condition

W.H. Auden's quotes offer profound insights on sin, humanity, and the human condition, blending sharp wit and deep philosophical reflections on life.

⊙ Quote of the Day: The Addictive Nature of Sin

W.H. Auden's Insights: Good, Evil, and the Human Condition

All sin tends to be addictive,

and the terminal point of addiction is what is called damnation.

- W. H. Auden -

Wystan Hugh Auden was an English-born American poet who immigrated to the United States just before World War II and later became an American citizen. Auden’s body of work includes a wide array of quotes that reflect his social observations, religious perspectives, criticisms, warnings, and deep reflections on life from various angles. His quote, "All sin tends to be addictive, and the terminal point of addiction is what is called damnation," may seem simple at first glance, but it carries profound metaphorical meaning. Auden, who was a disciplined morning person, waking up at 6 a.m. every day to write until noon, despised night owls. He once said, "Only the ‘Hitlers of the world’ work at night; no honest artist does." This statement metaphorically links his disdain for both Hitler and night owls, placing them in the same category of contempt.
